When we stayed: May 2015 | Rate: starting at about $50 for standard double room to $85 for family suite | Website: Hotel Brilant
The Things We Loved
The Hotel Brilant is a really modern hotel ideally located in Saranda and was a great place to be based for two of our nights in Albania. One of our rooms was their standard triple room with balcony and it was huge! It had everything you could want from cable TV, air conditioning, minibar (which we kept our chocolate in…yum!), and nice fresh breezes when the balcony doors were opened. I also took advantage of the dressing table to get ready in the morning and loved having space to spread out all my stuff.
My very favourite part of our stay here was the breakfast and the location of the breakfast room because of its view across the city and the water. And the food…SO good. They had a breakfast buffet with lots of choices from fruit, cereals, and hot items. And then, as a little treat, they had little chocolate crepe things. Oh my. They were delicious.
The staff were also friendly and helpful, even changing one of our rooms so our two rooms could be close together when they had been assigned several floors apart prior to our group’s arrival.
The Things We Didn’t Love
While I wasn’t overly keen on the oh so very red room it certainly wasn’t enough for me to not stay there and looking at photos from this site not all the rooms are decorated the same. This is about the only thing I can think of that I didn’t care for and this is so minor.
The location of Hotel Brilant can’t be beat! It’s a very short walk to the beach and the historic center of Saranda is only about a half mile away. There are lots of shops and restaurants right in the area and we took advantage of a nearby grocery store to buy a few treats and snacks. Because we were traveling by coach we didn’t need the bus station (to several other cities in Albania) or the ferry (to Corfu Island) but they are also only about a half mile away.
And the view from the breakfast room (and the other rooms facing the sea) … awesome!
Odds & Ends
According to their website breakfast is included in the rate so really you can’t beat the prices, especially since it was so delicious, as I mentioned before. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Saranda as would many people on TripAdvisor it seems as it is rated the #1 hotel in Saranda with 4.5/5 rating. Many people do mention it being noisy from bars and nightclubs in their comments but we didn’t find that to be the case. We found it to be very comfortable and clean and all in all a pleasant stay.
Have you had the opportunity to stay here? Would you recommend it to travellers to the area?
