Travel Goals Update: October 2015

Phew! It’s the end of October already and what a year this has been so far. I haven’t posted an update for my travel goals since July so this month I’m catching up on what’s been happening since then. The past three months have been the quietest in terms of travel, but that’s OK, the break was nice. Get ready though, we’re going to wrap the year up with a bang!

Goal #1: Reach (or exceed) specific milestones for most of my Lifetime Travel Goals

Visit 3 New Countries

3 New Countries

Even though I reached this goal in July I’m still excited about it. Reaching goals is fantastic! Even more exciting for me is I’ll be visiting a 4th country this year- Scotland in December! What a year this is turning out to be.

New Countries Visited in 2015:

  • Luxembourg (March)
  • Albania (May)
  • Germany (July)

Visit 16 UNESCO World Heritage Sites

16 UNESCO Sites

I haven’t visited any more UNESCO sites since July but there are some on the horizon. In November the kiddo and I will be visiting San Antonio so even though I added the missions to this list when UNESCO added them in July, I’ll now also actually be visiting them in this calendar year. We then have two more planned for our trip to Scotland to bring my total up to 15 for the year. I don’t foresee any opportunity to get the 16th one in this year, but man I’ve visited 15 this year! How cool is that?

  • San Antonio Missions ( visited December 2013)

Visit 3 Landmarks from my 100 Landmarks of the World List

3 Landmarks

I totally rocked this goal this year with not three but SIX landmarks visited from the list and I still have another one to go! I definitely underestimated our opportunities to visit some famous landmarks this year. Maybe next year I’ll have to shoot for ten!

Landmarks visited in 2015:

  • Royal Crescent (February)
  • Stonehenge (February)
  • Reichstag (July)
  • Brandenburg Gate (July)
  • Hollywood Sign (August)
  • Golden Gate Bridge (August)

Read Books Set in 30 Countries

Books Set in 30 Countries

Well one might think that during my blogging break I would have blasted through some books to make a dent in this goal, but alas, no I did not. I’ve done tons of reading but none of it can count towards this goal. Next year maybe I’ll do a better job at making this lifelong goal a reality.

Goal #2: #Take12Trips in 2015

Take 12 Trips

August found L, the kiddo, and I off on our California Dreamin’ road trip and we had an AWESOME time. From San Francisco to San Diego we saw tons of stuff and enjoyed the beauty of the drive along Hwy 1. Once September hit and school started though, well, it was time for a little travel break. We’ll finish off the year with a couple of trips away in November and then Scotland in December. Even though we didn’t get a trip in each month I’m still really pleased with how much we were out and about this year.

Trips Taken in 2015:

California Collage
Alcatraz | Fisherman’s Wharf | Warner Bros. Studio | Lone Cypress | San Diego | Bixby Bridge | Getty Villa | Android Statue Park | California Mission

 Goal #3: Global Eats

We’ve also had a couple of months break on the Global Eats front. Even though we had lots of great treats in California, there really wasn’t anything to fit in this goal. And September and October? If hot dogs at high school football games counted I’d have these months covered as that’s about as exciting as it’s been lately. :-)

With just a couple of months left of the year are you on track to reach your goals?
